Hi folks! Here I come with more oriental adventures.
I know it's been a long time, but my life now is a succession of class, homework, study for daily exams and repeat. But today's different, due to another typhoon, so classes got cancelled for two days. The weather is back to normal, so we will resume tomorrow.

These are a few places I visited before starting class in September and during the past weekends:
Elephant Mountain. A very steep hill, close to Taipei's financial area. We hiked during the late afternoon, so we could watch the sunset from there and the buildings come alive with lights.

Miramar ferris wheel. In West Taipei there's this nice place where you can have a good view of the city. We got a glass floor capsule and it was both fun and terrifying. We happen to be there a day before the first typhoon that hit the island. Not the best place where you should go to, but here people is used to that and if there's no danger, places will be opened. We were taken here by Yujin, my new Taiwanese friend.

The Moon Festival was on mid September. It's the most important national celebration in most parts of Asia. There are really important events with parades, dragons, lightning lanterns and so on.. But that's mostly in China, here in Taiwan, things are more casual, so it's more about spending a time with your family and friends, and barbecue. They also eat mooncakes, which are rounded like a full moon and it's believed to bring luck and fortune. So my friend Yujin invited us to barbecue with her friends.

It was an interesting fun afternoon, my friend just started uni and her friends were from highschool so we were sourrounded by eighteen year old girls, it was really surreal and fun. They were all really nice. We also peeled big pomelo fruits and the custom is to wear them as a hat.

These are from reception at the acommodation.

During the Autum festival, we also had three days of holidays, so we made the most of it to visit the city amenities. Many years ago, Taiwan used to be Japanese colony and this place we visited used to be and old warehouse and logistics centre. Nowadays it is a market and cultural center. Since it was national holiday, there were many families and also artists performing.

We had a giant ice cream at Ice Monster, a branch which serves a one size giant mix of shaved ice, fruit chutney and ice cream. You better share it or you end up with a stomach ache. We shared, but the lady who sat near us was determined to finish hers and there she stood digging her spoon slowly until it was over. That's  what I call perseverance!

Then we continued to Ximen, commercial area and young people's favourite for buying any crazy stuff that comes to mind.

But the funniest stop during our adventure day was Modern Toilet. The world famous restaurant that serves food on toilet plates and the costumers seat on toilets. We didn't eat here because the food is average and overpriced for the obvious reasons. But we had fun at the hall.

Last week we visited Maokong, a place in the mountains that surround our university. The name comes from an old dialect and means there are no cats on that area (cat in Chinese is mao), and it's a famous tea plantations area. We used the cable car and I must say the 3 pounds that cost the trip were more than worthy, it is a half an hour ride, it goes up and down then another mountain to the left, then to the right, then more up, more down... Such a long trip. I loved it! I will go back soon!

Last weekend we hiked the Teapot Mountain, near the coast, there are impressive views, and it's a bit demanding, there's a part you need to climb using the ropes placed there. However, the weather was not as nice and we were covered in a warm fog. It was good exercise tough!

Hilarious moment when two boys asked to get a picture taken with my roommate. Blue eyes and blonde hair is not so common here!

That is all for now, back to my reclusion (drops smoke bomb).
